Garden Update 8.25

Arise! Garden rain gage and tomatoes in background
It's raining, it's pouring, the tomatoes are growing
Arise! Garden eggplant in pot
Eggplant on August 8th or so

Our very first eggplant! We've had a lot of rain followed by sun lately. Our potted eggplants have been enjoying it. Our first eggplant is hanging off a plant. Now we have to figure out how to keep the critters away from them(our first has already gotten nibbled on by a critter).

While the eggplants have done well in the pots the squash that took off quickly have started to wilt and die off. They may be salvageable, but I'm not sure. When we moved a couple of pots are the roots were coming out of the bottom so it seems that they need more space to grow down.

Wes was looking up info on coffee grounds and composting and came across a tip for carrots. You can apply the grounds directly to your carrots. It seems that carrots and peas can use shade while the beets we planted are coming up in the sun. Things to remember for next year.

The late addition of cucumber plants (6 inch plants started in mid-July) seem to be doing well. They climb out and need space. I made the mistake of planting them too close to the carrots. We'll see how they do together.
