The Lessons of Seattle/1999: A Video Screening and Discussion
Monday April 16th at Arise! Books
2441 Lyndale Avenue, S. Minneapolis
Childcare will be available

As part of an ongoing series of community discussions in preparation for the 2008 RNC National Convention in St. Paul, the RNC Welcoming Committee and Arise! Books present the 2000 documentary THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE (72 minutes). The film weaves together video shot by over 100 media activists to offer a street-level vision of the 1999 WTO protests in Seattle. THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE attempts to capture the raw energy of the WTO protests while clarifying their global and historic significance.

Following the screening we will have a discussion with Twin Cities residents who were in Seattle in 1999 and will share their perspectives on the protest and its lessons for TC activists thinking about 2008.
