The Icarus Project, a local radical mental health collective, brings you the third and final (for now!) film in our Outsider Artist series. Wesley Willis: The Daddy of Rock 'n' Roll documents the life of the late Chicago artist and musician Wesley Willis. Filmmaker Daniel Bitton follows Willis throughout the streets of Chicago, riding the bus, talking to friends and strangers alike, selling his CDs to record stores, and going about his day. Willis was memorable to many for having schizophrenia, as well as being 6'6" and over 300 lbs, but was loved by his fans and friends for his quirky, oddball music, artist talent, and for being a real gentle giant. The Icarus Project runs a weekly support and discussion group for people living with "mental illness." We meet every Wednesday at 7pm at Arise Bookstore. Come by and check us out. Or email us at icarusmpls@gmail.com for more information. Thanks! |
