Thank You for Your Support at our Halloween Brunch

Arise thanks everyone for their support at our successful Halloween Brunch fundraiser. We ran out of pancakes, delicious apple crisp, and most other food because of the great response from the community.

Stop by the store and check our website for updates on how our financial situation is progressing.

September was Harvest Time at Arise!

This box is destined for Food Not Bombs
A small space and some effort can have a big impact.

A couple of weeks ago Wes and I made our way to the back yard to dig up some of the produce from our raised beds to bring to Food Not Bombs.

We harvested potatoes, tomatoes, herbs, carrots, beets, cucumber, and beans.

We'll be back for more soon. We still have a lot of beets, carrots, and tomatoes. Although its starting to get cold so our tomatoes won't be good for long. Hopefully we'll have more pictures to put up soon.

Garden Update 8.25

It's raining, it's pouring, the tomatoes are growing
Arise! Garden eggplant in pot
Eggplant on August 8th or so

Our very first eggplant! We've had a lot of rain followed by sun lately. Our potted eggplants have been enjoying it. Our first eggplant is hanging off a plant. Now we have to figure out how to keep the critters away from them(our first has already gotten nibbled on by a critter).

While the eggplants have done well in the pots the squash that took off quickly have started to wilt and die off. They may be salvageable, but I'm not sure. When we moved a couple of pots are the roots were coming out of the bottom so it seems that they need more space to grow down.

The Arise! Gardening Committee has turned the backyard into a great garden. We're using raised beds, pots, and even tires to grow fresh produce. We're growing tomatoes, potatoes, peas, beans, beets, squash, eggplant, cabbage, peppers, and more.

Stop by the store to check out the garden for inspiration and then come in and check out the books we've got to help you get started gardening in a space near you.

Food Not Lawns
FNL is one part gardening manual, one part community building memoir, and one part narrative from the author's journey from Food Not Bombs to Food Not Lawns on the West Coast.

Edible Schoolyard
ES is an overview of a Berkeley Middle School's experience turning long neglected bits of land into a successful space for students to learn how to grow their own food. Students learn about cooking, community, and the invaluable lesson that you don't have to buy what you need to survive.
