Arise! Must Arise Anew: Community Forum & Potluck

Saturday, Feb. 13th, 4pm
Arise! Bookstore
2441 Lyndale Ave S
Minneapolis, MN 55405

After being in our current location since 1993, the Arise! Books and Resources Collective has come to the painful realization that we can no longer afford to operate in this space. Rather than letting the awful realities of capitalism tear us apart, we want to figure out a way to arise anew. A new form. A new location. A new way to continue serving and being part of the radical and progressive community in the Twin Cities.

But we need your help! Please join us for a community forum and potluck to learn more about our situation, what we need to make this transition effectively, and how you can get involved. In addition to taking care of our financial and other commitments in a responsible manner, we need help finding a new space and figuring out a new model for providing this resource to the community.

After the community forum, stick around for a fundraiser for local activists and grand jury resisters Carrie Feldman and Scott DeMuth. Carrie and Scott were subpoenaed before a grand jury in Davenport, Iowa in November 2009. They both refused to testify and were taken into custody on civil contempt. Scott was charged with conspiracy under the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA) a couple days later and subsequently released pending trial, but Carrie remains in jail for refusing to cooperate with state repression. More information is available at http://davenportgrandjury.wordpress.com.

Unsettling Minnesota (http://unsettlingminnesota.org/) is putting on a double feature and potluck at 6:30 pm to help raise funds for their legal defense ($5-10 suggested donation). The documentaries being screened are "Forgotten Bird of Paradise" and "Tar Sands Documentary: Downstream."

With much love and solidarity,

The Arise! Books and Resources Collective
